Something is rotten in Massachusetts
The following is an excerpt from the Boston Globe article "Something is rotten in Massachusetts" by Joan Vennochi that appeared in March 10, 2011 edition.
TO STATE the obvious: Sal DiMasi is in big trouble.
First, his former law partner avoided indictment by helping prosecutors put together a high-stakes political corruption case against the once powerful speaker of the House. Then, one of DiMasi’s codefendants made a deal with prosecutors.
DiMasi is also on the wrong side of another flip — the one from slaps on the wrist to jail time for disgraced Bay State politicians.
Former state Senator Dianne Wilkerson was sentenced to three and a half years after pleading guilty to accepting $23,000 in bribes. Chuck Turner, a former Boston city councilor, drew a three-year sentence after he was found guilty of accepting a $1,000 bribe.

As anyone wondered if the the kickbacks and taking care of friends and relatives has entered into the structure of town government. I am told by very reliable sources that in the last 3 years teachers received anywhere from 8% to 29% pay increases just for showing up for work.
Firemen and policemen have received equally generous compensation for their efforts. Even bigger paychecks for drinking coffee and chatting with construction workers at various job sites.
BTW When I complained about the lack of traffic control efforts by these $70/hr (4 hr. minimum) self proclaimed heroes and protectors of the public. I have been told by several town officials that directing traffic is not their job. The overpaid cop's job is to ensure the safety of the workers.
