At least in Westford, they both seem to provide good service and adequate quality. So just go with the one that offers you the cheaper price.
I'm getting sales call from both of these TV service suppliers.
Any recommendations, comments,or whatever would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dick

We just moved into Blanchard Farms after selling our house outside of Forge Village. We don't get FIOS here, so I really did not consider Verizon much, and probably would not have anyhow (see the following). I signed up with Comcast for phone, internet and TV, very pleased with their service and pricing. I had been a Comcast cable customer for quite a while at the old house and was pleased with their service. I like that they have a location here in Westford that I could bring a busted cable box to personally. The few times their technicians had to make a visit, they were well prepared, knowledgeable and very professional.
Verizon, on the other hand, always seemed to provide crappy service (I had them for phone for years) and always had to dispatch people mutliple times to fix anything. A couple of times, I had argue with their repair people to convince them I had a problem, and, recently had to educate their techs on how to fix something (I have a very limited and aged knowledge of telephone tech stuff). The last time, I had to listen to the tech whining about their union contract expiring, something I really had no interest in.
I have not had many good experiences with them and probably would not have purchased FIOS even if they had it available at our new place. Having said that, I would not hesistate to use an offer of theirs to try to get a better deal from Comcast.
Appreciate the replies.
I did some research the last couple of days, and my conclusion is that they both have pros/cons worth considering.
No cut and dried choice as far as i'm concerned.
I had verizon trying to sell me and then I called Comcast whom took a week but did come back with a decent deal that gave me faster speeds and saved $20/month. Then I asked about adding my two business lines to comcast from verizon and hit the pay dirt. I will save $100 a month to switch to comcast for the business lines, so in the end staying with comcast is saving me $120 a month. When the comcast guy came to install my upgrade service he said they are super busy, as all the people whom had signed up for verizon 2 years ago are now switching as the verizon service and pricing goes way up when the contract is up.
Verizon's cell service coverage was always good in Westford, but in my experience their customer service has been third rate at best...with Comcast just squeaking past them to make second rate.![]()
I was home when the Verizon rep came to the door, and after I listened to the entire pitch, decided to go ahead and schedule the installation. After reading up on it and asking around to neighbors who have it already and hate, I ended up calling to cancel. I think they had given me a price of about $130 for most of the channels we get now- plus phone and internet. They assured me it was the absolute lowest possible price, and I'd end up saving about $80 a month over Comcast. When I finally ended up actually speaking to a live person, they put me on with an account rep who immediately offered to take $30 off of the monthly rate. I still stayed with Comcast, but if you are in the process of negotiating with Verizon- call their bluff!
After going years with Comcast for cable and Internet access combined with Verizon for our home phone, I switched over a year ago to Verizon and FIOS. FIOS isnt yet available in all areas of Westford. They offered a Quad package which includes my basic cable, home phone, Internet access as well as my families cell phones. One bill each month for everything which is nice. We save about $95 / month compared to what we were paying. The service has been very stable and Verizon now offers the local programming (something they could not do in the past), so we can watch the comedy that are Town Board meetings. If you dont opt for the Quad package they can now add you home phone to your wireless plan for $20 unlimited use per month. You could look at that as well. In the end customer service is what it is. Both have issues, you just have to hope you have none.
I have FIOS (home phone, TV and internet), it has been good to me: it delivers a better picture (cable had the nasty problem where portions of pictures would drop out from time to time; magnitude of ~ every 5 mins), it has been more reliable (see previous, also internet connection), price is ~ the same (I get a $10/month Verison discount via my employer; swwwet), customer service has been excellent (they came and insisted on installing during a snow storm last winter; they took almost the whole day but did it!).
I missed the memo on local programming, can you share the channels to checkout?
thanks
Vinny
34 and 35 have most of the local programs.
