A recent letter to the Lowell Sun indicates that Hanscom will have its main function, Electronic Systems Center, moved to Ohio.

Hanscom defense jobs are being lost

Has everyone been sleeping, while President Obama is selling jobs for veterans. Obama's Department of Defense is busy announcing hundreds of layoffs at
Hanscom AFB as a result of moving the Electronic Systems Center to Ohio.

The papers in Ohio are filled with stories about positions becoming available to help the unemployed -- while the employees at Hanscom are receiving their pink slips.
We knew when Sen. Kennedy passed that Hanscom would be there for the pickings, but I guess we hoped Sens. Brown and Kerry, along with Gov. Patrick, would at least pay attention.
Many of the positions are currently filled with veterans who will now find themselves without employment in a very difficult environment.

But where's the outrage -- where's the coverage -- are the newspapers too afraid to comment?
Oh, and let's not forget the companies in the local area that will need to layoff hundreds of people as collateral damage -- many of whom are veterans.

I guess the 7% unemployment rate quoted today will soon change for the worst.


The questions that need to be answered is whether or not jobs at MITRE, MIT and the various small companies located around Bedford will also disappear.
