Risk of Incident Diabetes with Statin Therapy
Statins, the drugs that keep on killing and maiming for the profit of pharmaceutical companies.
The data below was obtained from the medical journal JAMA.
If you do a Google search on "statin, diabetes", you will find many newspaper articles on the subject but only USA Today reported it in a manner that reflects the findings of the paper.
Is the media, in the pocket of the capitalists and robber barons, in addition to the left wing loons and Hollywood pseudo intellectuals?

Risk of Incident of Diabetes with Statin Therapy
A Brief Overview from medical report.
In 5 statin trials with 32752 participants without diabetes at baseline, 2749 de- veloped diabetes (1449 assigned intensive-dose therapy,
1300 assigned moderate-dose therapy, representing 2.0 additional cases in the intensive-dose group per 1000 patient- years)
and 6684 experienced cardiovascular events (3134 and 3550, respectively,
representing 6.5 fewer cases in the intensive-dose group per 1000 patient-years) over a weighted mean (SD) follow-up of 4.9 (1.9) years. Odds ratios were 1.12 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.04-1.22; I2 = 0%) for new-onset diabetes and 0.84 (95% CI, 0.75-0.94; I2 = 74%) for cardio- vascular events for participants receiving intensive therapy compared with moderate-dose therapy.
As compared with moderate-dose statin therapy, the number needed to harm per year for intensive-dose statin therapy was 498 for new-onset diabetes while the number needed to treat per year for intensive-dose statin therapy was 155 for cardiovascular events.
intensive-dose statin therapy: Pharmaceutical company’s maximum recommended daily dose
moderate-dose statin therapy: Pharmaceutical company’s one half or less of maximum recommended daily dose
Authors’ Conclusion: In a pooled analysis of data from 5 statin trials, intensive-dose statin therapy was associated with an increased risk of new-onset diabetes compared with moderate- dose statin therapy.
Unanswered question: Risk benefit analysis of Diabetes vs Cardio Vascular Events for a No Statins Therapy .
At your next medical appointment ask your Dr. Kildare or Dr. Green to educate you by asking the following questions:
a. What is the risk of developing diabetes when on Statin Therapy?
(Do not tell him about the JAMA article. Use USA Today as your source of information)
b. How did you determine the starting statin dosage that you prescribed for me?
Crawl over to the manufacturer's web site and get a copy of technical info on the particular drug.
My experience (7 doctors) is that doctors prescribe the maximum daily dosage notwithstanding that the majority of the pharmacological companies recommend that the starting dosage should between 10 and 25% of the maximum daily dosage.
Happy New Year
